The Andrea Hoffman Honorary Fund for Illini Hillel

For the past 35 years Andrea’s name and life have been tied with Hillel. She worked passionately to breathe new life in struggling Hillels, created support networks and resources for Hillel professionals, and ultimately impacted the lives of thousands of students. She taught Hillel professionals how to engage students and how to support colleagues, helped codify the Kranjec Test, and created Dwell, the rejuvenating program that gave many Hillel professionals the opportunity to learn joyfully, restore their spirit, and connect with their community.

While supporting the entire Hillel movement, Andrea always stayed connected to her Alma Mater Hillel – Hillel at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (Illini Hillel). Andrea graduated from Illinois in 1987, but returned a decade later in 1996-1997 as the interim director of Hillel. During her term, Andrea paved the way to Illini Hillel’s celebration of its 75th anniversary. In Fall 2019 Andrea joined Illini Hillel’s board and supported the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic and into Hillel’s Centennial Celebration.

Last week Andrea Hoffman had her last day at Hillel International. To honor Andrea’s 40 years with Hillel at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign and 35 years of working in the Hillel movement, we are raising funds to form the Andrea Hoffman Honorary Fund for Illini Hillel. The fund will be used at the discretion of Illini Hillel’s executive director to support professional development for Hillel’s staff in the areas of Jewish education, wellness, and/or opportunities that offer rejuvenation and connection to Hillel's mission.

Our goal is to raise at least $10,000 and establish this fund as an endowment fund with the Champaign Urbana Jewish Endowment Foundation. Please make a donation at an amount that is meaningful to you. Any donations to this fund will count as part of Illini Hillel’s Centennial Campaign.

You can donate through Hillel’s website at http://donate.illinihillel.org (please write “In Honor of Andrea Hoffman” in the comments section, or send a check to Hillel at the University of Illinois, 503 E. John Street, Champaign IL 61820. You can make a pledge or ask about other ways of giving by emailing Illini Hillel’s executive director, Erez Cohen erez@illinihillel.org
